I am a pre-Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a Registered Drama Therapist (RDT). If you are feeling anxious, exploring your identities, transitioning to different cultures, environments, or age groups, I am here for you. I create a safe space for you to be heard and feel authentic. Being fluent in Japanese and coming from a different cultural background, my approach is rooted in understanding diverse emotional and cultural perspectives of my clients. I have experience providing individual and group therapy to clients ranging from children to adults with neurodevelopmental disorders, as well as those navigating anxiety, life and/or cultural transitions and trauma. My specialty is expressive therapies, particularly drama therapy. I can utilize drama therapy or expressive arts-based approach to tap into the creative part of yourself. Words sometimes cannot articulate everything you are feeling or experiencing, but I believe imagination, embodied expression, and play can narrate them in different ways. My goal is to support you by navigating your challenges and embracing your unique stories. If you think using words in another language other than English can express your emotions well, we can explore that too. We can find a healthy relationship with your challenges by utilizing your innate creativity. 日本語でもどうぞ!

You may feel stuck in the same patterns: having the same argument with your partner, overthinking every decision, or knowing something needs to change but not knowing where to start. I work with adults and couples navigating relationship challenges, anxiety, and life transitions. Therapy can help slow those patterns down, understand what is driving them, and create more intentional ways of responding so you can feel more connected, grounded, and confident in your relationships and everyday life. My style is collaborative, curious, and down-to-earth. I help clients understand the patterns beneath their distress while also building practical ways to communicate, regulate emotions, and respond differently. I draw from relational, attachment-based, and evidence-informed approaches tailored to each client or couple. Finding the right therapist matters. You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out. If you feel stuck, disconnected, overwhelmed, or ready for something to change, I would be glad to talk with you about what you are looking for and whether working together feels like a good fit.

At Atlantic Behavioral Health in Wilmington, we’re here for college students from nearby towns—like Middlesex Community College in Bedford, Salem State commuters from Woburn, Endicott College students in Burlington, or Merrimack College folks just a few towns over in North Andover—who are grinding through school but wrestling with mental health hurdles. Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is designed for students like you—maybe you’re a Merrimack undergrad swamped by stress from late-night study sessions, or a commuter juggling classes and work but feeling crushed by anxiety that’s tanking your focus. We connect best with those pushing hard but struggling with things like low moods, constant worry, or even gambling habits that started as a distraction but took over. We’re a perfect match for students ready to face feeling off—whether it’s skipping hangouts because you’re drained, reeling from a rough grade or family chaos, or just wanting to clear the mental fog—without putting college on pause. Our clients usually want to get back in the driver’s seat—nailing that group project, chilling with friends, or enjoying a weekend without overanalyzing everything. Right off Route 93, we’re a quick drive from Billerica, Tewksbury, or Andover, and we’re super flexible with morning, afternoon, and evening IOP sessions. Got daytime classes? Our evening sessions let you stay on top of school while getting support after hours. Whether you’re the over-thinker who’s spiraling, the risk-taker who’s lost control of betting, or the quiet one hiding how hard it’s been, our IOP gives you a no-judgment space to sort it out with a team that gets the student hustle. With options to fit your life—morning for early risers, afternoon for mid-day breaks, or evening to keep your days free—we’re here to help you tackle your mental health and keep your college groove. Ready to feel stronger and more like yourself? We’re just a short trip away.

Aria Psychiatric is currently providing in person and telepsychiatry visits for clients in Massachusetts. Clients are seen first for a diagnostic assessment and can expect warmth, empathy, and expertise as they work to better understand their mental health concerns. Together with their provider, they will work to determine an appropriate treatment plan. Psychiatric treatment requires a unique collaboration between provider and client in order to be most effective. While medication management and supportive therapy are provided by our practice, clients are also encouraged to be actively engaged in treatment with a therapist.
I offer a collaborative space to address a range of issues, with a particular interest in working with life's big transitions. For example, professionals launching their careers and students formulating their vocational goals; or people in family changes: entering long-term commitments, early parenthood, divorce, or grief. Therapy can provide a non-judgmental space that is both warmly supportive and challenging. Our work will typically balance a combination of self-reflection and change. We start this process together by looking at how your presenting concerns fit into the complex story of your life. Throughout this process, I aim to enhance my clients' agency, satisfaction, and creativity within their lives. About me: Please visit my website at www.miriamwaldheterphd.com . I earned my doctorate at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. I then completed a pre-doctoral internship at Cambridge Health Alliance/Harvard Medical School, and postdoctoral fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. In addition to private practice, I also work part-time at the Danielsen Institute at Boston University.
