Therapists for college students near 27705
During any stage of life we are faced with challenges of many kinds. And these trials can keep anyone in the dark, not realizing that hope can be found. If you're someone who is trying to figure out who you are in the world, trying to find their way, or who just needs a solid connection with a partner; if you recognize a problem and a longing for change or struggling with overwhelming thoughts and emotions that keep you pushed away, leaving you in the dark, then you’re not alone and I’m here to help. I believe creating a strong connection is a major step towards healing. My approach to creating a therapeutic bond is person-centered and strength-based. As a family systems therapist, I long to understand how our present growth challenges are shaped by our history of connections. With that new awareness, we can pave the way for positive changes in healing. The key to any therapeutic process is a successful connection within the therapist/client relationship. It is important for the journey to have a therapist who can provide a safe space for your story to be heard and the skills to harness inner strength. If you feel like you’re struggling recently, loosing power or control over your life in ways you could not possibly imagine or realize, then we encourage you to reach out here at Alta Terra, where we can provide an honest safe space for you to be accepted, to find empowerment, encouragement, and healing as you journey to your higher ground (your greatest potential), for a higher ground is within your reach, no matter what season of life you’re in. It would be a joy to speak with you and to explore this journey together if I may be the right fit.
Sims Counseling & Consulting is a sanctuary for holistic and integrative mental health. At Sims, we go beyond conventional psychotherapy, weaving mindfulness, art, meditation, yoga, movement, and somatic experiencing into the fabric of our services. Here, we believe in nurturing the complete being – mind, body, and soul. Every now and then life has a way of hitting us hard. We believe that when individuals enter counseling they are feeling gridlocked in their current situation and need assistance navigating their way out of the storms. We see counseling as a process by which I guide my client in exploration and identification of their needs. Through cognitive and somatic techniques we help raise clients' awareness of ineffective behaviors, toxic cycles, and distorted thinking patterns that may be standing in the way of the changes they desire in life. We believe that transformation begins when we slow down, tune into our bodies, and honor what comes up. We have experience supporting emerging adults and college students, let's get started!

My clients often struggle with challenges in their relationship’s whether they be romantic, friendly, or family relationships. My clients worry about abandonment, often finding issues from their past show up and negatively affect their relationships. Some feel they may be in a codependent relationship but not sure. Our work together will help you understand how past pain affects present relationships. Then we will work at unpacking that baggage, organize it, and put it away in a safe place. Although it may never truly go away, you can confront it in a way that allows you to move forward and find happiness. My goal is to get to know you and the issues that bring you to counseling. We will work together to help you establish a baseline of calm, good self-care, and coping skills. This will help you feel safe and secure before we dive into unpacking the things that are causing you pain. Together we will set goals, to help you realize all of your unique strengths, create healthy boundaries, and self-esteem to build a happier, healthier life, I look forward to working with you.
At times, life can feel like trying to steer a parked car - you’re hoping to move, but the wheels won’t turn. Therapy, for many, becomes a place to begin moving again. Starting on unmarked and unfamiliar terrain can be daunting. With this in mind, I am passionate about providing an open and secure environment that allows you to express yourself authentically and regain momentum. As you steer your car, I partner alongside you with creativity and compassion. At times, life can feel like trying to steer a parked car - you’re hoping to move, but the wheels won’t turn. I provide individual and family therapy to adolescents & young adults (ages 13-30). I treat anxiety, depression, ADHD, anger, family conflict, mild substance use disorders, and oppositional defiant disorder. I have found tremendous success in working with resistant clients and the resulting family conflicts.
I work with clients—children, teens, or adults—who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of who they are becoming. They may be navigating anxiety, depression, identity questions, adoption-related challenges, trauma, grief, or big life transitions. They’re looking for a space where they can feel safe, understood, and supported. Their goal is to build resilience, strengthen emotional regulation, deepen connection, and feel more confident in their identity and relationships. They want to heal, grow, and rediscover a sense of possibility, and they’re seeking a therapist who can meet them with creativity, compassion, and curiosity. I help clients by offering a warm, creative space to explore emotions, strengthen identity, and build resilience. I specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, adoption, and LGBTQIA+ identity. Using expressive arts, MB-CBT, and trauma-informed approaches, I support healing, regulation, and confidence. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or unsure where to begin, you’re not alone. I offer a supportive space for you or your child to heal and grow. When you’re ready, reach out for a free 15 minute consultation, and we can explore your next steps together. The world is intense right now, isn’t it? And on top of it all, you're having to juggle school, a social life, and everything else! I imagine you might be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, tense, stuck, lonely, ashamed, worried, sad, or any other number of feelings. Or maybe you just feel numb or not sure what you’re feeling anymore. That’s okay. All of you is welcome here. I’m here to support you wherever you are, working together to explore your world and where to go from here. Whether it be the systems we live in, events from your past or present, the patterns inside you, connections in your life, or something else that brings you here, we will explore next steps together. My counseling style integrates many different elements. I am person-centered, where I seek to understand your experience from your perspective, and use multicultural counseling, where I consider the systems that impact your life. I am trauma-focused, trained in EMDR therapy and acute stress modalities to support you in moving through trauma, whether it be acute, ongoing, or long past. I also have a somatic focus, inviting your body’s wisdom and parts into the session, and an attachment-based lens, looking at how your early relationships influence how you relate to others now. I most often work with people who have experienced trauma, who have negative beliefs about themself they just can't shake, and/or who are in the LGBTQIA+ community, especially those who are trans* or gender expansive. I also have experience supporting neurodiverse people; individuals struggling with anxiety or grief; and people going through personal, spiritual, vocational, and relational transitions. I know the search for a counselor can be difficult because I have been there many times myself. Please reach out if you have any questions! I would love to connect and see if we might be a good fit to begin a counseling journey together. A little about me outside of being a counselor: I enjoy wandering in nature, dancing, reading, playing board games, and connecting with loved ones near and far. I also spend a fair bit of time on my own self-growth, including undoing racism within me, taking care of my wounded parts, and reaching out for support as needed.
Finding Your Way in a Time of So Much Change College and young adulthood can be exciting, but they can also feel surprisingly overwhelming. You may be figuring out who you are apart from your family, navigating friendships or relationships, worrying about your future, managing academic pressure, or simply wondering why everyone else seems to have things figured out when you don’t. Sometimes it’s anxiety that won’t quiet down. Sometimes it’s loneliness, self-doubt, a difficult relationship, family expectations, or the feeling that you should be happier than you are. And sometimes you just need a place where you don’t have to have the right answer. I’ve worked with women and young adults for more than three decades, and I understand that this stage of life is about much more than getting through college. It’s about becoming your own person. Therapy with me is warm, collaborative, and practical. We can make room for what’s difficult while also helping you understand yourself better, trust your own voice, build healthier relationships, and feel more confident about the life you’re creating.

Forming yourself into the adult you are going to be for the rest of your life can be stressful. Managing academics, extracurricular activities, relationships, and social life while planning for your future after college can be super overwhelming at times. I work collaboratively with you to help you learn to cope better with life's stressors, reduce symptoms of mental health, enjoy healthier relationships, and set and achieve your goals. Knowing your values, what's important to you, and following your passions, separate from what others want from you is important and presents challenges. We will help you figure out how best to live the life you most desire.
We can all benefit from gaining insights, learning skills, and having “tune ups” along the way. If you’re feeling stuck, struggling with how you feel about yourself or in relationship with someone, experiencing unwanted or intrusive thoughts or memories from a past experience, ruminating on negative thoughts or beliefs, or feeling anxious or depressive symptoms, you don’t have to walk through it alone! Our therapists use various counseling approaches that include evidence based treatments like Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, EMDR, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Because we are out of network, we can also get creative within our work with you. We’ll utilize appropriate techniques such as music or walk-and-talk therapy and can even take “field trips” with you if we deem it beneficial in your treatment (ie- restaurant outings, exposure therapy for certain phobias, home visits, etc.)
