Therapists for college students near New York, NY
At Taproot Therapy, our goal is to target the main root of your concerns as a means to create lasting change in your life. We specialize in anxiety disorders and depressive disorders. Anxiety and depression can uproot your life! We are here to help you feel grounded and supported.
As a young adult, holding your own emotional space—especially with family—is a powerful way to support your mental health. Your 20s and 30s are a time where you might find yourself getting into a serious relationship, welcoming a child into the world, or coping with the death of a loved one. These transitions often come with shifting family roles and expectations, which can make it difficult to maintain healthy boundaries with the people closest to you. That’s where I come in. As a therapist, I can help you to clarify, set, and navigate boundaries that support your personal growth, values, and the connections you have with others as well as navigate and identify strategies to cope with anxiety that comes up naturally during any transitional period in life. During our time together, we’ll identify the boundaries most important to you. We’ll also process feelings like guilt or shame that might come up around setting them and create strategies for communicating your needs effectively. My holistic, collaborative approach puts you in the driver's seat of your own treatment. Mental health isn’t a one-size-fits-all, so I provide personalized care that centers your unique needs and sense of agency. Going to therapy is vulnerable and brave, and I’m here to support you with whatever comes up in our space together.

Hi! I offer an approach that is trauma-informed and holistic, and grounded in bodily autonomy, liberation, and anti-racism. I am particularly dedicated to those who have been excluded from mainstream therapeutic spaces. My expertise is with LGBTQIA+ communities; sex workers, poly / ENM, kink / BDSM communities, neurodiverse, disabled / chronically ill communities; and current and former substance users. My approach is informed by my shared identities and experiences with these communities. I work with survivors of Intimate Partner Violence; childhood and adult sexual violence; attachment trauma; hate violence; and police, state, and institutional violence. I offer psychotherapy, EMDR, DBT, IFS, grief counseling, somatic approaches, and harm reduction counseling. All sessions remote. Please feel free to contact me directly to talk about fees and what times are available.
I am a mature psychoanalyst who has experience working with college students and other young adults who are facing life transitions. My areas of strength are working with trauma and BPD. You may be carrying a lot of trauma even if you don't identify yourself as a trauma survivor. My approach is not goal or coach oriented. I do not give advice rather I help people to get in touch with their authentic self so that they may be better able to cope with life's challenges.
I tend to work best with college students and young adults who look “high-functioning” on the outside but feel overwhelmed on the inside. Many of the students I see are smart, reflective, and trying hard — yet struggling with anxiety, mood swings, burnout, panic, or a constant feeling of pressure to perform or hold everything together. You might feel stuck between who you were expected to be and who you’re becoming. You may overthink conversations, feel emotionally exhausted, struggle with motivation, or feel disconnected from yourself or others. Some students I work with have experienced past stress or trauma that still shows up in their body — through anxiety, sleep issues, emotional shutdown, or feeling on edge — even if “nothing bad” seems to be happening now. In therapy, we move at your pace. You don’t need to have the right words or a clear goal right away. My approach is supportive, curious, and collaborative — focused on helping you understand what’s happening beneath the surface and develop tools that actually feel usable in real life. Therapy with me is a space to slow down, feel less alone, and build steadiness during a demanding and uncertain chapter of life. I will be getting credentialed with additional insurances and accepting private pay-please feel free to check back or reach out if you have any additional questions or concerns.
Hello, I’m Soo. I am a psychotherapist who uses a supportive and goal-oriented approach to help steer you toward the life that you deserve. What I do: I can help you achieve your vision of a thriving and fulfilling life after identifying and clarifying your individual goals and taking committed action. While this is a process, I can help you navigate the journey by providing an empathic, supportive, and non-judgmental space. If you are experiencing Anxiety, Depression, Life Transitions, Social Anxiety, Work stress, and Relationship issues, you are at the right place. What to expect: The process is like learning to drive. As long as you're committed to the program and want to sit in the driver's seat, I guarantee a patient and willing instructor by your side. What happens next: My approach is unique, and I'm confident you'll see progress soon. The first step is to schedule a session. We'll take it from there, together. My first career was in the fashion industry. This experience helped me to understand and connect with clients who are experiencing work/life challenges. Modalities: Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy.
If you feel stuck in the same patterns and lost on where to make a change, my approach is for you. Therapy can seem like an intimidating process to begin but I assure you it does not have to be that way. I offer therapy that is relational, relatable, realistic, and non judgmental. Our sessions will be about exploring where you want to be and how we can get you there, in a way that is collaborative, creative and resourceful. Together we can find ways to alleviate distress, build skills, and find tools that help outside our sessions in your day to day life. I strive to create a space that is empathetic, safe, and personal to you.
I work with college students by offering a safe and supportive space to talk through the ups and downs of this stage of life. Sometimes we use creative tools to help express feelings, and other times we just focus on conversation. My approach is always collaborative, and I’ll meet you where you’re at—whether that means exploring new ways to cope with stress, building healthier relationships, or simply having a space to sort through what’s on your mind.
I'M A FIRM BELIEVER in the health of one's mind being a crucial factor in their ability to meet the demands of everyday life. It becomes a harder task to address stressful situations if you're already not feeling well. Think about moments when you might not have been able to focus at work, successfully study for an exam, or even effectively communicate your concerns to others due to how you felt mentally and physically. MY WORK AS A THERAPIST ENTAILS consistent problem-solving, reasoning, exploring, investigating, learning, and healing. I provide compassionate, supportive, encouraging, and challenging therapy that facilitates and promotes growth for people who seek to improve the quality of their lives. Reflecting on one's actions, highlighting the importance of self-awareness, and offering advisement on ways to improve the overall health of one's lifestyle are a few ways by which I aid individuals in achieving an enhanced experience of life. THROUGH THESE MEANS, the ability to focus at work becomes a bit easier, studying for an exam is not such a harrowing feat and effectively expressing your needs feels like more of a natural practice. All the while, paying special attention to your improved health both mentally and physically.

Thank you for reviewing my profile and see if we could be a good fit! My experience includes working with individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, self-esteem, and relationship issues. Additionally, I work with many clients dealing with career or school related stress. Prior to my work as a Mental Health Counselor, I worked in the corporate world of fashion, which gave me a deep understanding of how a fast-paced and demanding work environment can affect one’s well-being. I believe the most important factor is the relationship between myself and my clients. A genuine, trusting relationship is so critical for this work. My initial training was at Northwestern University, and was centered in a psychodynamic approach; however, I have additional training in, Mindfulness, EMDR, CBT, and IFS approaches. This allows me to pull from multiple techniques to do what is best for each client and their goals. I work collaboratively with individuals. I want to hear your input as we devise a plan on how to reach your goals. You can expect me to check in often on how you feel therapy is going, and use feedback to help modify our approach as needed. Looking forward to meeting you and seeing if we could be a good fit!
TriBeCa Therapy is a center for psychotherapy that was founded on the assumption that human beings are original, imaginative, inspired, and inventive. We particularly love our work with young adults and college students and are connected to issues they deal with. Issues related to sex and dating, drugs and drinking, depression and anxiety and academic pressures aren’t topics that will freak us out. We can handle it. College students frequently discuss with us challenges related to making friends in ways that don’t involve alcohol, making friends as a person of color, navigating social situations that demand connecting with strangers (like in the cafeteria) and finding “their people.” We work to create a partnership that takes these challenges on together, trying new strategies, taking increasingly bigger risks and dealing with the disappointments and celebrating the successes that follow. Rise to change your story is a mental health practice based in New York City which provides mental health services to individuals, couples and families struggling in their relationships with themselves, others and/or with money/spending. Rise to change your story emerged from our belief, that we make meaning of our life, victories and struggles through the stories we live out, the stories we internalize about ourselves and the ones we share when we interact with others. Our life stories emerge, are shaped (and also limited) by our social, cultural, familiar and interpersonal contexts. We all learn the standards by which we measure ourselves and each other through the stories we see and hear, and by the stories we tell each other. We believe that during difficult times in life, we tend to be more vulnerable and we have a sense of being stuck in stories that usually restrict the possibilities we perceive for a better life. There is nothing wrong with us for that. Sometimes we manage to figure things on our own but sometimes we don’t. It happens. We cannot possibly have all the solutions for all the challenges we encounter, and therapy is one way to figure things out in the context of a supportive environment where you can further explore different options that you may have not considered. Our work is based on helping people explore and experience some alternative story lines that may already exist in their lives or may have existed, but have been forgotten or overshadowed. In our practice our mission is to support you to rise and change your story. A story with themes and plots that are more satisfying, more fulfilling, more empowering and more aligned with what matters the most to you. We believe such stories are always there if we look for them. We believe TODAY IS THE DAY TO RISE AND CHANGE YOUR STORY.
