Therapists for college students near Austin, TX
Hi, I’m Monica Fields, LCSW, PMHC. I work with multicultural and first-generation young adults, as well as new and expecting parents, helping them navigate identity, relationships, and life transitions such as adjusting to college. Using Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), ACT, and mindfulness-based tools, I support clients in understanding relationship patterns, managing emotions, and reconnecting with their values. My approach is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth—I create a space where you can feel seen, supported, and empowered to move forward in your life with clarity and confidence. Whether you’re adjusting to parenthood, balancing cultural expectations, or exploring who you want to be, I’m here to help you navigate these challenges with self-compassion and practical strategies.
Are you navigating an ‘it’s complicated’ relationship? Do you feel crazy, like you can’t trust yourself? Have you found out your partner has betrayed you? Are you ready to process through childhood trauma to end generational curses? It is my passion and honor to focus on women’s issues, relationship issues, and trauma. I believe in tracing symptoms to their roots. My approach to counseling is about creating a space of trust and rapport to collect dots, to connect dots, to ultimately, correct the dots. I utilize EMDR, somatic experiencing, and behavior therapy to respond to how past unresolved experiences are coming up and creating obstacles in present life. If you’re ready to do the work, you have access to freedom from things that are no longer serving you and an opportunity to move toward a brighter and more secure future.

Do you feel emotionally drained, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve you? I work best with individuals and teens who are struggling with anxiety, trauma, mood changes, relationship stress, academic pressure, or major life transitions. Many of my clients feel burned out by school demands, difficulty focusing, test anxiety, or fear of not meeting expectations while also trying to manage everyday stress. They’re looking for practical support that actually helps, not judgment or pressure. I offer a warm, direct, and supportive space where you can be honest, learn coping skills you can use right away, and regain a sense of control. If you’ve been feeling like you’ve kind of lost yourself lately, you’re not alone—and you’re exactly who I love working with. A lot of the people I see are juggling school, expectations, relationships, and big life decisions, while quietly feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of who they really are. You might overthink everything, struggle to say no, or feel pressure to have it all figured out—even when you don’t. In our work together, you won’t get a stiff or overly clinical experience. I show up as a real person—warm, down-to-earth, and sometimes bringing in humor when it helps take the edge off. Most of the clients I work best with have one thing in common: they feel overwhelmed by the pressure to “have it all together,” especially around food, body image, and big life transitions. Many of them are students who look fine on the outside but are quietly struggling with anxiety, burnout, or feeling disconnected from their bodies. I often work with people who: Feel guilty or stressed about eating and don’t know how to break the cycle Overthink food choices or feel “out of control” around food Are adjusting to a big life change (moving away from home, starting college, pregnancy/postpartum, major stress) Carry a lot of self-criticism and feel exhausted from trying to meet everyone’s expectations Want a space where they can be honest without feeling judged or misunderstood My clients tend to be caring, hard-working, sensitive, and often the “strong one” in their friend group. They’re usually trying to balance school, relationships, and their own mental health—often without giving themselves the same compassion they give others. If that sounds familiar, you’re in the right place. My goal is to make therapy feel like a safe, steady place where you can slow down, understand what’s going on underneath the stress, and feel more connected to yourself again.

Trauma is not a one size fits all experience. I am a licensed professional counselor with a passion to create a safe, warm, and inviting environment for individuals to openly express life struggles and challenges that presents as traumatic experiences. That environment is a judgement free space where the individual can feel heard and seen. I have worked with individuals and groups aged 6 years old up to 65+ within the community, schools, churches, their home settings, and within private practice offices. Individuals who engage in therapy can expect to take away understanding and hope. This understanding of how to cope or manage their mental health stimulates hope that "YES! I can!"
Solutions not band-aids, because clients deserve more than just the alleviation of symptoms. Treatment should be customized to meet the needs of the clients, because although more than one client may have a similar diagnosis everyone should be treated as an individual. For those interested in a higher standard of care whether you are managing stress, struggles with sleep, depression, anxiety, or another mental health challenge feel free to contact me via email to set up a consultation. If you are at this website you have already taken a step in the process towards change, so let's take the next step together.
