As a psychologist, one of the biggest part of my roles is to aid people with learning and understanding strengths/weakness and how to use these to increase goals they want and to reduce the negative impact on their life. I use testing and evaluations to understand and diagnosis the negative impact areas. Psychological evaluations are helpful when wanting to know your diagnosis, needing school accommodations related to mental health, ADHD evaluations to just name a few. My counseling specialty is with substance use and addiction, and even more specific in that field I enjoy counseling those with both mental health and addiction disorders. Many times specialized care is needed when you have both as focusing on one and not the other can lead to relapse in both disorders.

I am a graduate of Appalachian State University with a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy, and have been practicing for the past 17 years. I specialize in work with individuals, couples, families and teens, and have a focus in systems theory and narrative therapy. I prefer to work in collaboration with my clients to use the expertise that they have in their own lives to help find strategies that can help them build the life that they want. I am passionate about helping people work through and solve the problems that are important to them and I consider it an honor to be invited into the lives of my clients through the element of therapy.

School can be some of the most rewarding years of your life but they can also be overwhelming. Between classes, internships, work, relationships, family expectations, finances, and figuring out who you are and where you're headed, sometimes it's good to have some extra support. Therapy gives you a place to talk openly about what's going on, without judgment. Whether you're feeling anxious, stressed, burned out, stuck, lonely, or simply trying to make sense of a major life transition, you don't have to navigate it alone. I work with college and graduate students on concerns such as anxiety, self-esteem, relationships, identity exploration, gender identity, academic stress, life transitions, binge eating, and body image. Many of my clients are also learning how to manage life on their own for the first time and are discovering that no one ever really taught them how to handle the emotional side of money. As a Certified Financial Social Worker, I can help you develop a healthier relationship with money, spending, debt, budgeting, and financial decision-making. Together, we can explore both the practical and emotional aspects of financial wellness so you feel more confident and in control. My style is warm, supportive, and down-to-earth. I'll meet you where you are, help you build on your strengths, and offer practical tools along the way. If you're curious about working together, I'd be happy to schedule a free 15-minute consultation to see if we're a good fit.

Welcome! I strive to hold a safe and authentic space for my clients where they can feel supported. During my Masters program, I completed practicum and internship at Appalachian State Counseling and Psychological Services. In that time, I discovered my passion for working with college students, young adults, and adults experiencing depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, grief, major life changes, and other mental health concerns. Creating a therapeutic relationship is vital to fostering a space of mental healing, and I strive to make that with my clients. I strive to hold a safe and authentic space for my clients where they can feel supported. I believe you are the expert on your own life, and I can provide support and encouragement to assist you in meeting your chosen goals and process your experiences without judgment. Hi, I'm Dani, and I'm so happy you're here! I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate, and I am the owner + founder of New Perspectives Mental Health Serices, PLLC. My hope is that if you are reading this, you are ready to take the next step in your mental health journey. Anxiety shows up differently for everyone. Maybe you just started college and feel lost and overwhelmed or have just moved to a new city with no support system in place. You could be trying to decide what career will be the best fit, or maybe you feel confused after realizing that you don't want to continue in the career you chose several years ago. Oftentimes in early adulthood, relationships can also bring anxiety whether they be with friends, family, or romantic partners. Do you want to learn how to be your most authentic self while also managing life's stressors? Then I want to help! Although I specialize in working with clients ages 18-30, everyone is welcome to reach out to connect. Our work will be collaborative. My approach is integrative, but I lean heavily towards cognitive behavioral therapy. This means that we will spend a great deal of our time focusing on how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors connect. We will also work together to build new coping skills so that you are able to continue the work outside of the therapy "room." I strongly believe that every person's needs are different, and I am prepared to meet you where you are.

My clients are exhausted and overwhelmed like you. They are tired of doing their best to keep all these balls (school, work, parenting, relationships, self-care, health and wellbeing, sleep + more) up in the air (even though admittedly they are pretty darn good at it). But when they inevitably drop a few because something else pops up or they get tired, life feels messy and they are quick to place judgements on themselves. My clients are expert problem solvers and doers, who in the face of stress, just keep going. Some are the type of person who the people in their life lean on for support. Some have tried a number of ways to fix or problem solve their way our of their emotions or exhaustion. They find their coping to work for a little bit but aren't moving them towards the life they imagined for themselves. Some realize they aren't sure they can keep up with all of what needs to be done to feel "okay". When some of my clients do take time for themselves or the rest they need, their mind struggles with feeling guilty, worrying about what they "should" be doing for work/school/person (fill in the blank with any responsibility). I help my clients get clearer on their wants, needs, and values while addressing some of the downfalls that come with always doing, fixing, and over functioning. I approach my work with clients through use of Acceptance Commitment Therapy and Somatic Experiencing. These two approaches help support internal reflection and clarity along with experiential, skills-based, and mindfulness practices.
